Market Curators were appointed by Morgan Sindall, acting on behalf of Sanwell Metropolitan Borough Council, to undertake feasibility work for the relocation of West Bromwich Market. The scheme aims to relocate an underutilised market space from a sub-prime location to prominent high street units with linkages to the popular outdoor market offer.
Market Curators have been involved in the project from its inception, delivering public and trader engagement exercises and supporting the design team to deliver a sustainable tenant mix, layout plans, infrastructure and servicing plans.
Consultation involved speaking to members of the public, undertaking digital surveys and drop-in sessions and meeting with Market Traders, to support a co-design approach to delivering a market that meets the needs of the public and business community.
Detailed design specifications, architectural briefs and business and commercial planning has also been undertaken by Market Curators to ensure the scheme is viable and will support a vibrant market offer in the future.
In September, the newly created West Bromwich Market received planning permission to deliver a new market in the heart of the town centre, bringing together a diverse mix of existing and new traders to create an independent anchor on the High Street.
The next steps will involve supporting the existing trader base to secure their units in the new market and attracting a diverse mix of new traders with a wider focus on street food, fresh food and service businesses to support the sustainability of the market going forward, with Market Curators developing and launching the lettings campaigns to support the early stages of trader recruitment.
